Yaang Huuk Uun: Konfabulation

An diesem Abend wird das derzeit laufende Projekt – Performative Einzelgespräche mit einigen Deutschen südostasiatischer Herkunft aus Dresden – vorgestellt. Dieses Projekt kartiert Körper in verschiedenen Stufen der Integrierung und verwendet dafür die Schrift Meetei Mayek, die mit jedem Zeichen ein Körperteil beschreibt. Als Schrift gehört Meetei Mayek zu Meeteilon (Manipuri), der indigenen Sprache, die im südöstlichen Bundesstaat Manipur an der Grenze zwischen Indien und Myanmar nahe des Himalayas gesprochen wird.

BemBem is an artist, translator, and writer. Her current exploration is life and land in the ruins of militarisation and capitalism. She works with a number of media and performance disciplines, hoping to find completely unexpected encounters that can shift and deepen her practice.

As an artist-in-residence at Zentralwerk Dresden, supported by Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, she will begin work on her new multimedia project titled Yang-Huk-Uun: Confabulations. It uses the Meetei Mayek alphabet-to-body writing system to investigate the body languages and movements lost/transformed/polluted in social, cultural and political assimilation. Meetei Mayek is the indigenous script of the Meetei people of the south eastern Himalayan state of Manipur in the heavily militarised Indo-Myanmar frontier region. BemBem is from the Luwang clan of the Meetei people.
