In her artwork Caroline Günther moves at the cut surface between objective depiction and abstraction. Executed via fast moves partly, the focus of the gestural paintings is on plains and surfaces. Inspired by the study of Japanese wood cuts and her enthusiasm for the latter Caroline Günther creates rooms through intuitively put overlays and a specific interplay of shiny and matte image moments that do not consist of monochrome surfaces but of structures and blotches. In her new series of images the depicted objects seem weightlessly floating, remote from any scenery. Also here it is clear that Caroline Günther’s interest is the possibilities of painting and less the motifs themselves.
