The exhibition initiated by the Texture Printmaking Studio brings together four artists who focus their joint gaze on the hidden aesthetics of Taiwanese streets and alleyways. At the centre of their artistic exploration are intricate tile patterns, cool terrazzo floors and the characteristic, decorative iron grilles that have characterised Taiwan's cityscape for generations. However, these everyday views are not understood here as mere architectural details; they are the outer shell of urban life and at the same time bearers of collective memories and historical traces that have been inscribed in cultural memory across different eras.
With the help of unique manual reproduction techniques of printmaking, the artists succeed in transforming these rigid architectural symbols into visual narratives full of warmth. The material plays just as important a role as the motif itself: The exhibition integrates local Taiwanese handmade paper in an intense way, creating a space for in-depth, sensual exploration. At this "cultural interface", the fine texture of the paper, the urban context of the island, the cultural memory of its inhabitants and the masterful execution of contemporary printing art come together.
