ÜBER Dresden
04.12.2026 — 10.01.2027
The exhibition “ÜBER Dresden” showcases the eponymous photo series “ÜBER” by the artist Nina Behnisch. Each of these photographs was taken using the iPhone’s 3-second exposure setting, which reveals stars in the night sky that were previously invisible to the naked eye.
To ensure the exposure and algorithm work properly, the iPhone prompts us to hold still.
On 13 December, the Hole of Fame, together with the artist, invites you to pause and reflect whilst enjoying tea and mulled wine and observing the Geminids (shooting star shower) in the Dresden night sky.
ABOUT The Earth rotates at a speed of over 1,000 km per hour – faster than a passenger aeroplane. The reason this does not affect our perception is that everything around us is moving at exactly the same speed as we are, and therefore appears stationary to us. Motion can only be described in terms of the relationship between one object and another (or to a fixed point in space) – as such, speed remains relative.
When we not only slow down but come to a standstill to gaze at the night sky, we form a connection with the universe that surrounds us. The ground beneath our feet moves in a circle around the centre of the Earth; the Earth moves around our Sun; our Sun moves around the centre of our galaxy; and so on. Yet, viewed from our vantage point, the stars appear to stand almost still. They invite us to slow down and to comprehend the boundless movement of the universe – both at the same time.
Grand exhibition opening on 3 December from 7.00 pm
