TABURETTE (seat rehearsal at your own risk) – Exhibition by Stefan Nestler
artwork by Stefan Nestler

Stefan Nestler, born in Freiberg in 1962, combines diverse influences from constructivist and concrete movements in his works. His work is characterised by a pronounced sense of pictorial order, in which chaotic, amorphous elements of reality are transformed into structured, rhythmic compositions. This "regularity of the series", as can be found in his works, transforms the original purpose of things and elevates them into a superordinate pictorial context. What appears fleeting and transient in the world is permanently fixed in Nestler's work through structure, measure and proportion.

After studying photography at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig from 1988 to 1992 under Professor Arno Fischer, he was awarded the Sächsische Zeitung art prize in 1992. A year later, in 1993, a working grant from the Kulturfonds Berlin foundation enabled him to travel to Southeast Asia as part of the "CITYWALKS" project, which had a lasting impact on his work. Since 1998, Nestler has regularly taken part in art in architecture competitions, and in 2001 another working grant took him to Cleveland, Ohio. His works are represented in numerous collections and have been shown in exhibitions at home and abroad since 1983. With a clear, organising visual language, he explores the profound themes of time, transience and form in various media - from photography to art in architecture.
