Streams elude firm grasp. They shape landscapes, create patterns and concentrations. What they produce is neither pure chance nor entirely predictable. Form emerges as an event of energy that reveals itself only in the flow.

A swirling phantasmagoria can only be grasped if it is captured for contemplation. Yet by being fixed, it loses something of its own logic. Visibility and withdrawal, insight and loss are mutually dependent.

Vortices are a particular manifestation of the current. As rotating concentrations, they become the embodiment of a force that brings order out of turmoil. At the same time, they capture human perception. Ilinx – the interplay of spinning and falling – seeks a state of confusion and being beside oneself. The loss of control is not feared, but sought. The pull of the vortex promises an experience beyond the fixed boundaries of the self.

Vortices and currents thus become models of cultural experience. The moment of being beside oneself appears not as an exception, but as an opening in which perception, body and world relate to one another anew.

The exhibition featuring Ella Maria Groß and Mira Friedrich takes up this moment of opening and explores the perception of bodies, objects and nature. In her sculptural works, Mira Friedrich examines the interconnections between humans and nature. In her figurative paintings, Ella Maria Groß presents snapshots of human existence.

The exhibition explores the invisible processes that lead to visible outcomes. Humans attempt to comprehend them, whilst remaining part of the world’s flowing movements.
