"Places of power" for Reinhard Springer are primarily landscapes that he returns to again and again, which he observes as the seasons change and which inspire him to create art. He finds these places on the Elbe floodplains, in the Saxon countryside or on the Baltic Sea, for example on the islands of Rügen, Mön and Bornholm. The Nordic archipelago landscapes are also a frequent subject for the artist. We encounter them in his paintings in various light situations and in explosive, unrestrained colours. Springer's painting captivates us with its irrepressible and frenetic radiance. Through a painterly fabric of seemingly abstract, high-contrast patches of colour, we experience views of vast landscapes, the power, violence and sometimes also the deep tranquillity of nature.
