REFUGIUM
02.03.2024 — 13.04.2024
Funding programme of the Kunstverein Meißen for young curators
Curated by Maxi Wollner and students of art history at the TU Dresden.
The exhibition shows works by nine artists whose positions conceptualise the diverse notion of space. Between painting, installation, sound and video art, a spectrum of interpretations of space and environment opens up.
"Refugium" approaches the question of a safe space through the interplay of these different artworks and contents.
What can this look like and be sustainable in today's society? How fragile is security? And how can it be provided in the first place?
The artists offer their own spaces within their works, which either attempt to open up a safer space or draw attention to the absence of such a space. The reciprocal relationship that opens up between the positions connects the digital with the real space, the intimate with the public, the battlefield with the safe space.
Visitors are invited to gather individual impressions and experiences and to enter into a dialogue about the various themes. Beyond this, the exhibition encourages above all a search for a personal refuge.
The exhibition is being created as part of the Kunstverein Meißen's support programme for young curators in cooperation with the Bias FLINTA* Projects.
"Refugium" is being planned and realised by students of art history in the "Curatorial Practice" seminar at TU Dresden under the direction of Maxi Wollner.
