RAUM. Architekturen des Wissens

An exhibition on the history, buildings and collections of the SLUB Dresden

Space provides orientation, stability and a home. It sets boundaries whilst at the same time enabling experiences of boundlessness. It assigns a place to objects and people and helps us to determine our own position in the world.

The exhibition at the SLUB’s Book Museum is dedicated to the concept of SPACE, in both its abstract and concrete forms. Drawing on the local history of the SLUB and its predecessor institutions, as well as the library’s diverse collections, it explores how spaces are planned, created, transformed and perceived, and ventures a glimpse into the boundlessness of the universe and the cosmos of knowledge.

Architectural plans, maps, astronomical illustrations, prints, photographs, musical scores, videos, music recordings and contemporary artworks bring to life different conceptions of space, both past and present. It becomes clear that spaces are not fixed entities, but are constantly changing – just like the library as a place itself.

Featuring an artistic installation by Caroline Tabet.
