Quianna Simpson, a scholarship holder of the exchange programme run by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony and the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC)/ Columbus, Ohio, USA, in Dresden.

Quianna works as a dancer and choreographer specialising in West African dance as well as other dance styles such as modern dance, jazz dance, hip hop and lyrical dance. She is active in the commercial dance sector and has, amongst other things, been engaged as a support act for Usher and as a backing dancer for the R&B group Blackstreet. 

Quianna is deeply involved in the local community (‘Community Dancer’) and participates in numerous events, educational projects and mentoring programmes. For her ongoing social commitment, she won the “Artist Elevated Award” – an incentive award for professional artists presented by the Greater Columbus Arts Council.

Her passion for African traditions and the realities of African-American life shapes her artistic identity.

As part of an Open Studios event, she will be offering an insight into her work at Martin Luther Platz on Thursday 14 August from 7 pm.
