OPEN CALL: RESIDENCY in der Meetfactory Prag im Mai 2025

The International Centre for Contemporary Art MeetFactory and C. Rockefeller in Dresden announce a new round of residency exchange for a one-month residency in Prague in May 2025 and for participation in the Liquid Sound Festival at Toskana Therme Bad Schandau on 1 November 2025. MeetFactory Prague will host a German new media or mixed media artist interested in experimenting with sound and/or light installations and support the artist in developing an independent or participatory project for the Liquid Sound Festival in Bad Schandau.
MeetFactory is a non-profit international centre for contemporary art founded in 2001 and housed in an industrial building in Prague's Smíchov district, in a unique space located between a motorway and an active railway line. MeetFactory's programme consists of four dramaturgical departments - music, theatre, gallery and the artist-in-residence programme. The international artist-in-residence programme is the largest studio programme in the Czech Republic. It comprises fifteen studios in which over thirty visual artists, curators, musicians,... The AiR programme consists of curatorial studio visits, informal talks, excursions and public events in open studios. It provides audio and sound equipment and technical support.
Collaboration between MeetFactory and C. Rockefeller Center:
MeetFactory will host a German artist in May 2025 with the aim of participating in the Liquid Sound Festival, C.Rockefeller Center will host a Czech artist in April 2025. Both residencies therefore welcome artists who are open to collaboration and ideally we would like to support a joint project of Czech and German artists for the festival. The festival in Bad Schandau is equipped with a sophisticated underwater sound system and offers space for sonic or visual works, installations or compositions. During the residency, a media laboratory in the C. Rockefeller Centre Dresden or a recording studio in Bad Schandau can be used. The residency will take place from 1 to 30 April 2025 in Dresden and from 1 to 31 May 2025 in Prague. The exchange artists can get to know the scholarship holder from the partner organisation during their residency.
The residency includes:
- Accommodation in Prague
- Studio in the MeetFactory
- Return transport from their place of residence in Germany to Prague in economy class;
- A lump-sum expense allowance for the residency of 1000 euros per month.
Residency dates:
The residency will take place in Prague from 1 to 31 May 2025.
Applicants must fulfil the following requirements:
- have at least 2 years of experience in the practical implementation of artistic strategies (including completed solo and/or group exhibitions, public presentations, concerts, performances, publications...)
- have completed a degree or be exempt from studies for the duration of the residency
- have a good command of English
- be free from professional obligations for the duration of the residency.
The application, written in English, must include the following:
- CV
- a portfolio of no more than 10 pages;
- a letter of motivation of no more than 1800 characters with a justification for the residency and a project proposal as well as an idea for its realisation, particularly with regard to the intended outcome of the residency at the Bad Schandau Festival.
- Selection process:
The application will be evaluated by a committee composed of the curators of the MeetFactory residency programme and representatives of the C. Rockefeller Center and Netzwerk Medien Kunst.
The committee reserves the right to reject any project without giving reasons. The committee's decision is final and cannot be appealed.
The deadline for applications is 22 February 2025, and applications received after this date will not be considered for the selection process.
