Johanna Seidel translates her perception of reality into a poetic visual language. In a highly individual way, history, mythology and personal experiences converge on her canvases to create dreamlike, evocative and equally cool and enigmatic scenic portraits of modern young women. 

The painter finds inspiration for the figures and settings in her paintings within her family, amongst her friends, and from impressions of nature gathered whilst out walking. 

What characterises Johanna Seidel’s artistic style is a delight in opulent ornamentation, at times a playful embrace of the naïve, as well as an engagement with the tradition of painting through references and allusions to art history.
