Kati Bruder: WIR ANDEREN
07.02.2026 — 14.03.2026
The WE of a community is a social sculpture to which we belong, but which also looks at OTHERS. We are always both subject and object. One time we are WE and the other time the OTHERS.

WIR ANDEREN
In search of the ideal community
Exhibition + Artist-In-Residence
Inspired by Beltempo's text, Kati Bruder began to visit communities, always following the trail of social connections in connection with spaces:
Last year, a small glimpse of her work, as one of 3 positions of the exhibition INMITTEN, was possible at FOTOFORUM DRESDEN. Now we are showing her much broader view of communities that are perceived as a group from the outside due to spatial circumstances. Kati Bruder encounters communities of destiny as well as self-organised or temporary communities. She always asks the people living in a particular place to open their front door to her and position themselves in the anteroom.
WIR ANDEREN is a project about the perception and formation of communities in our society, the emergence of a sense of togetherness, about cohesion, exclusion, loneliness, spatial proximity and isolation, visibility and representation. Kati Bruder examines the connections between the view of different communities, their spatiality and connectedness. The reflection of the gaze and the process of seeing as a culturally shaped process also play a major role.
The opening will take place on 6 February in conjunction with the season opening of all galleries at Neustädter Markt Ost in the presence of the artist and she will remain with us until 14 February, as she is expanding her series on site with the Edition Dresdner Menschlichkeit.
Kati Bruder lives in Vienna and works internationally. In addition to other awards, she received the Austrian State Scholarship for Artistic Photography in 2017 and the City of Graz Promotion Prize for Photography in 2015 as well as the Wiesbadner Fototage Audience Award.
