In the exhibition Hidden (Nobody Knows), Taiwanese photographer Shih Yun Chien presents a series of photographic works created between 2022 and 2025 in Prague, Czech Republic. Having recently completed her studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), Chien’s work unfolds a dialogue among the city, fear, and the inner landscapes we inhabit.

Coming from Taiwan—a warm island—she encountered an inexpressible psychological distance within the unfamiliar city of Prague. Over time, this distance gradually transformed into a unique way of seeing.

The work begins with a question that speaks directly to the inner self: “What are you afraid of?” Through interviews with the residents of Prague, Chien translated their spoken narratives into images, allowing the camera to become a vessel for emotion and memory. These images move between intention and chance: some resemble quiet performances, others occur in fleeting moments. Though brief and fragile, they reveal inner states with profound sincerity.

he exhibition is composed of two interrelated parts:

• Hidden: Focuses on the psychological landscapes of Prague’s younger generation. Presented primarily through black-and-white photography, the series is accompanied by a color portrait and a first-person narrative, tracing the emotional contours of contemporary youth.

• Nobody Knows: Set in Žižkov, a historically working-class district shaped by its socialist past. Through images of streets and urban spaces, the series evokes the passage of time and the residue of history. It is echoed by the spoken memories of an elderly local woman, forming a resonance between past and present.

Hidden (Nobody Knows) does not seek tooffer answers. Instead, it invites viewers to linger between images, sensing how fear, memory, and identity quietly inhabit the city, and to reflect on how one’s inner world is more broadly intertwined with lived experience.
