The world is in flux. The old order no longer seems reliable. Human rights and the achievements of an open, peaceful world, which we believed to be secure, are increasingly at risk. As a result of Putin’s war of aggression against Ukraine, we now confront a worsening situation in Europe. Many people have already lost their lives and millions have been forced to flee.

In response to this very recent development, 14 young artists who hold scholarships from the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and come from Ukraine, Georgia, Russia, Turkey, Iran, Ecuador and Germany position themselves clearly with the help of their works of art. They have produced different pieces using a wide spectrum of media, including drawings, photo series, video, film and architectural installations. Their individual perspectives on issues like diversity, migration, democracy and social cohesion, partly influenced by their own biographies, form part of a FES-wide project »For a better tomorrow« intended as an artistic contribution to social discourse, in which the participation of all the arts is more crucial than ever before.
