In her translucent paintings, Dominique Hille creates an open pictorial space defined by only a few symbols. Horizon lines, human figures, rock formations and labyrinths appear as fragile traces straddling landscape, memory and projection. These transparent pictorial symbols interpenetrate one another; in their incorporeality, they are akin to the unconscious.

With The Later Stages of Nigredo, Hille takes up a concept that Carl Gustav Jung describes as a phase of dissolution and transformation. Her works are situated in this liminal state: between orientation and disorientation, visibility and disappearance, on the boundary between conscious perception and inner imagery.
