The landscapes that artist Christian Manss depicts in his paintings seem familiar to the viewer. You often think you recognise familiar topographies, panoramas and places of longing - and yet they have no real models, but have sprung from the artist's imagination. In other words: fictitious. Christian Manss plays with a broad palette of landscape and geometric forms. Gentle hills meet sharp-edged elements that look like foreign bodies, gold tones contrast with bright colours. The works challenge viewers to bring in their own spaces of reference and experience and to rediscover what they know in the fictional.
