Carl Lohse, who belonged to the "Lost Generation" and late Expressionism, created an oeuvre that is characterised by an inexhaustible power and concentration on the essential, despite the repressions he suffered during his lifetime.
This is also evident in the remarkable work on display from the 1930s to 1960s with its landscapes, portraits, animals and nudes. To mark the 140th anniversary of his birth, also the 60th anniversary of his death, the Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art Cottbus and currently the Bautzen Museum are honouring the painter with exhibitions. With our show, you can once again encounter the lustful liveliness of his works.
