Andreas Dörfel, SPÄTSCHICHT Malerei und Objekte
04.09.2026 — 23.10.2026
Andreas Dörfel’s paintings, in contrast to the demands of his work as an architect, are not constructive. Here, no drawings are realised and no load-bearing capacities are calculated.
In his painting, he takes the opposite approach. Structural integrity is dissolved or overlaid. Drawing elements are incidental traces – scratches made in passing,
seemingly without any intention to create. The result is a story without a narrative, comparable to the surfaces of old façades that have not yet been renovated.
Plaster has its own shade of grey, and graphite has its own. Sand is sand-coloured. No more colour is needed. Instead, there are layers that remain porous, lending the paintings an object-like quality.
Their serene luminosity invites contemplation. The viewer is encouraged to let their imagination run free.
Exhibition opening 4 September, 8.00 pm, introduction: Thomas Matauschek; Music: Andre Dusk, ambient and electric guitar
The discussion with Andreas Dörfel and the curators will take place on Friday, 23 October, at 8.00 pm.
