AGOR is an international collective of contemporary artists that was formed during the Covid-19 pandemic. At a time of isolation, uncertainty and closed borders, the project fostered connections from a distance and demonstrated that artistic exchange remains possible even under the most difficult circumstances.

For artists, the pandemic meant the loss of exhibition opportunities, audiences, travel and direct exchange. At the same time, Brexit created new barriers to cultural collaboration between the United Kingdom and Europe. Yet the conviction remained that art must go on – even when the world comes to a standstill. What began as an online residency programme developed into an ongoing international collaboration between Wales and Germany through residencies, exhibitions and dialogue.

At the heart of AGOR lies contemporary art as a shared dialogue. The collective brings together artists whose practices vary but who share the conviction that art can transcend boundaries – geographical, cultural and political. The focus on female artists highlights the persistent inequality in visibility within the visual arts and the need to strengthen representation and exchange.

This exhibition is taking place at the Full Moon Gallery – a venue that remained accessible to the public during the lockdown through its shop-window exhibitions. In this sense, the gallery and AGOR share a common approach: both responded to isolation not by retreating, but by finding new ways to maintain the connection between artists and the public.

The exhibition brings together works by Catrin Grosse, Iris Stoeber and Chris Bird-Jones, as well as selected contemporary female artists from Wales. Through sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, printmaking, glass and mixed media, the works explore transformation, perception, memory and material change. Different visual languages converge in a shared space of exchange and reflection.

AGOR opens up a meeting place for contemporary art that transcends borders. And reminds us that art must carry on – even in times of separation.
