To conclude his sound residency at the C. Rockefeller Center Dresden, Tilman Pätzold will present the performance grass with single root on 9 May at 8 pm, which transforms the architectural space into a kinetic field of sound and light. For this evening, he has invited the intermedia artist Monika Pocrnjic from Maribor.

The collaboration marks an interface between two different but complementary approaches to sound research. Monika Pocrnjic contributes her expertise in DIY electronic hacking: she uses hand-soldered circuits, open-source hardware and repurposed everyday technologies to create unpredictable, organic sound sources. In her practice, she sees electronics not as a finished tool, but as a malleable medium that she shapes into new instrumental interfaces through "hacking" - creative misappropriation.

Pätzold responds to this with a complex multi-channel setup - where instrumental textures are spatially modulated and enter into a direct dialogue with Pocrnjic's raw, electronic signals. Complemented by a light installation developed on site, an immersive structure is created that dissolves the boundaries between sonic matter and virtual spatiality.

In April and May 2026, the C. Rockefeller Center Dresden welcomes trombonist and multimedia artist Tilman Pätzold for a sound residency, which is made possible in collaboration with the Netzwerk Medien Kunst and the Transmedia Akademie Hellerau as a continuation of the SONAR research series. Pätzold, who consistently dissolves the boundaries between instrumental performance, digital art and socio-cultural networking in his work, will transform the centre's premises into an immersive multi-channel audio environment.
