20.03.2025 — 23.03.2025

Super 8 turns 60 years old! From 20 to 23 March 2025, the 26th dresdner schmalfilmtage invites you to (re)discover the fascination of analogue film at the Motorenhalle Dresden! The iconic film format has inspired generations of filmmakers - and still does today.
Whether found footage, live soundtracks or experimental portraits - we will celebrate the timeless aesthetics of 8mm and 16mm film in 23 exciting programme items. Festival visitors can expect a colourful mix of international film competitions, workshops, performances and an exhibition in the Adlergasse Gallery.
The opening ceremony on Thursday, 20 March marks the start of the festival. The Found Footage - Minerva Archive Photo Film programme and the international Found Footage competition will show extraordinary perspectives that combine creative techniques with archive material.
On Friday, the birthday programme "60 Years of Super 8" will be another highlight - a tribute to the format. In addition to fascinating and personal stories, there will be gripping films on real Super 8 film. The live soundtrack competition in the evening promises musical surprises.
Saturday offers a broad spectrum: the documentary film Doarp in the "A Glimpse of North" programme, the Super8/16 International Competition, the children's film programme and the audiovisual performance "Telesonic 9000" create a fascinating mix of tradition and experiment.
The final day features highlights such as the presentation of the "Frisian Film Archive" and the Australian duo Richard Tuohy & Dianna Barrie, who explore the boundaries of film with rhythmic image sequences and experimental techniques. With the guest programme by Chute Film Coop, which presents unconventional narrative forms and bold ideas, the dresdner schmalfilmtage will conclude this year's festival edition.
The cosy festival lounge offers space for exchange, music and culinary enjoyment - designed by The Ferry Crew and accompanied by music from DJ Kühltrans & Nagel.
From nostalgic treasures to experimental avant-garde - the dresdner schmalfilmtage offers everything the cinematic heart desires.
