HANDLUNGsRAUM __ 25. August bis 14. September 2025 __ Juliane Schmidt - F/ALTER

HANDLUNGsRAUM (project series at galerie drei since 2020) _________________________________________

- means focussing on the promotion of contemporary art by women whose work is primarily conceptual and in new visual media and whose content is guided by overarching themes. The invited artist moves her artistic work into the gallery for a certain period of time, i.e. into the public eye, and thus gives interested visitors an insight into the processes of her artistic thinking and acting.

During the correspondingly designated opening hours, visitors can follow the processes of the artistic development of her project in a personal conversation with the artist and thus bring about an understanding of these art forms. For the artist, too, this form of work means an interesting, artistically stimulating confrontation and opens up new perspectives.

Juliane Schmidt (* 1982 in Görlitz) __ Project F/ALTER __ utilises the poetic power of futility and translates everyday observations and reflections on human existence. She combines drawing, photography, video, sound and narrative in an experimental way. She studied at the Bauhaus University Weimar, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma and the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts and was awarded the Robert Sterl Prize of the Dresden District Collective Foundations in 2012. In 2013, she lived and worked in Viersen in North Rhine-Westphalia for a year as a scholarship holder of the Kunstgenerator. Travel grants from the state capital of Dresden took her to Strasbourg in 2012, to Rotterdam in 2014 in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and to Salzburg in 2024.

Juliane Schmidt's artistic practice is diverse. In 2022, for example, she realised the art-in-architecture project "Beppo" for the TU Bergakademie in Freiberg, followed in 2023 by the audio piece "Oh Shit Frau Schmidt" about the challenges of motherhood and creative vocation, based on individual experiences and stories from colleagues.

Juliane Schmidt takes the temporal tipping point of individual existence - being able to look roughly as far into the past as into the future in life (whereby the view in both directions becomes cloudy at a certain point) - as a conceptual starting point for the 2025 action space in gallery three. In dialogue with the visitors to the open studio phase, Juliane Schmidt wants to gather experiences and thoughts about the processes of change involved in growing older. People of all ages who would like to be part of the F/Alter* project are cordially invited to use the following questions as points of reference for their own storytelling and to share their thoughts with the artist in a personal conversation at Galerie drei or by email to post@julianeschmidt.com.

What is your attitude towards ageing / old age / the finiteness of your existence?

How has your attitude towards this developed/changed in the course of your life?

What changes do you perceive in yourself as you grow older? (e.g. in terms of how you perceive yourself and others, your place in society, your abilities...)

In view of your own finiteness, how do you evaluate your actions?
