In Appia’s stage theory, actors and dancers are understood as symbolising time: every single person creates their own chronology through their actions, the positions they take on the stage, their movements and song.

The walk-in installation picks up on these temporal aspects within a production in the form of a gathering of clocks: a collection of 24 clocks from the main station in Frankfurt is set to a new rhythm. Once, they all ticked in time – now, each is separately programmed to totally different rhythms, making the hands turn out of sync.

The Appia project will be the first time the 24 clocks – each of which represents one hour of the day – are shown together, filling an entire room with light and rhythms.
