What reasons are there for contemporary artists to draw on works from art history?

This exciting question will be explored in the first group exhibition at the premises of Coderitter GmbH. Curator Oliver Kratz has put together works by the following Dresden artists:

Lars Kohl (painting), Karen Gäbler (painting), Mirjam Moritz (graphic art) and Ekkehard Tischendorf (printmaking).

In addition to the Dresden positions, artists from beyond the region are also involved: Cranach Prize winner and Hasselblad Master Katerina Belkina (Werder/ Havel), sculptor Sebastian Hertrich (Nuremberg), technology pioneer and science artist Olaf Schirm (Berlin) and award-winning photographer Matthew Hamon (USA).

These refer to works by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Da Vinci, Picasso, Degas, Max Klinger, the motif of the "Madonna and Child" and the landscape painting by Carl Cowen Schirm. 

The artists will be present in person on the evening of the vernissage.
