SONAR – Workshop- und Konzertreihe Teil 2: Was ist ein Instrument?

SONAR - Sound. Performance. Interaction in rural areas: We explore the surroundings of Saxon Switzerland and the Eastern Ore Mountains in joint audio workshop formats. In July and August, the SONAR programme takes us to the Musiksommer Bärenstein, the Heymannbaude Kleinhennersdorf near Bad Schandau, the Torhaus Wehlen and, at night, the Toskana Therme Bad Schandau.

Sound Cartography (workshop in english)

How can we capture the sonic
essence of a place on a map? How have approaches to sound cartography evolved over time? What defines this practice, and who were its pioneers? In this exploration of digital sound cartography, we will delve into the history and development of sound mapping, exploring the work of researchers who laid its foundations. In collaboration with OUTSIDEININSIDEOUTINSIDEOUTOUTSIDEIN.

Liquid Summer Lab - 3D audio experiment

A one-week workshop for the development of contemporary audio pieces and sound works in the field of 3D spatial sound. Participants can realise their own audio productions and ideas
and present them to a wide audience at the final concert.

20 August 2025 Torhaus Wehlen: Workshop Antje Meichsner (Dresden)

One-day hike through Saxon Switzerland with discussion.

Antje Meichsner is a Dresden-based multidisciplinary artist in the fields of sound, film, composition, radio, graphics and poetry. In terms of content, she deals with the body in society and which political discourses permeate the individual. And how the individual traverses the landscape. Antje Meichsner has a special focus on the people who live in Saxon Switzerland. She has been conducting artistic research on this region since 2020. Antje will take over part of the lab and expand our knowledge of the environment, landscape and listening through an explorative practice of walking and sleeping outdoors.

This is a workshop in German/English and part of the research and artist residency project "Sonic Confessions" and is organised by the international Outsideininsideoutinsideoutoutsidein Kollectiv since 2019. This year it will take place from 11 August to 8 September at Torhaus Wehlen.

The Bodies of Water / Liquid Sound

This workshop invites you to explore underwater sounds with the help of hydrophones and guided listening exercises at night
and outside opening hours on the Liquid Sound System in the Toskana Therme.

Overnight accommodation is available on request for workshops lasting several days. A limited number of microphones, recording devices, headphones etc. are available for the workshops; participants are welcome to bring their own devices (a smartphone is already suitable for most applications).
