SALON* 6

Pars pro toto

THOMAS FIßLER

NIKOLAUS WOERNLE

Opening: Friday, 19 January 2024, 6 pm

Introduction: Asmus Trautsch

Exhibition: 20.1-10 February 2024

The title Pars pro toto  takes up the idea that every artistic result can only be a fragment of the respective present from which it emerged. Representing a state of the world, such an artefact ideally flashes up something not yet thought, heard or seen. The tandem of the current exhibition brings together two forms of perception: Eye & ear for a more complete fragment of the world.

Woernle sets photographic and filmic works by Fißler to music and creates a neighbourhood and locality not depicted in the motifs. The source material is expanded acoustically, illustrating, interpreting and freely asserting from case to case.

Nikolaus Woernle works as a freelance musician, composer and producer. From 1994 to 2003, he lived and worked in Hamburg and began collaborating with artists in the field of theatre and performance. As a result of his ongoing collaboration with Peter and Harriet Meining (norton.commander.productions), Nikolaus Woernle moved to Dresden in 2005. Since then he has developed various sound installations and has been involved in interdisciplinary stage performances. His music and sound design for dance and theatre pieces can be heard in venues throughout Germany.

Thomas Fißler lives and works as a visual artist in Dresden. His long-term photographic and film projects focus on the transformation of landscapes on the urban fringes and are characterised by an associative-fictional aesthetic; found motifs that usually arise succinctly and in unplanned situations. Fißler has almost lost the human being as a subject, but he is omnipresent as an actor of the causal constitution in the world he photographs.
