RAO FU

SU-RAN SICHLING

Opening: Friday, 15 December 2023, 6 pm

Introduction: Christoph Tannert, 6:30 pm

Exhibition: 16.12.12.2023-13.12.2024

In this exhibition, the dialogue between Rao Fu (painting) and Su-Ran Sichling (sculpture / object) takes place in a variety of perspectives that allows for approaching and distancing.

The works by Su-Ran Sichling, created between 2014 and 2020, emphasise the artist's particular interest in combinations of materials, such as terrazzo with wood or ceramics with brass or painted steel or mirrors, with screen printing also coming into play in some cases.

Combinations and boundaries, transitions between material differences and the reflection of transculturality - these are the themes she explores.

Su-Ran Sichling steps out of predetermined paths of thought. Her art is beautiful because it provides impetus. She deconstructs relationships and thus constructs new particles of the world.

In Rao Fu, Asian mythology and European Baroque overlap with Dresden roots, further enhanced by the favoured reception of the old masters in the Dresden Picture Gallery as well as Edvard Munch, Daniel Richter and Peter Doig. Like every attentive painter, Rao Fu also lives from the pictures of others. The artist entrusts himself to other voices, he registers, remembers, reacts and modulates in a disparate constellation of attention stimulation, in which art is an echo of art.

The artist is interested in the intrusion of the unexpected into the everyday. This is why he searches for visual metaphors for the abysses of the subconscious.

Two very different artistic personalities meet in their dynamic creative will.

Jubilee Street // SALON* 1-10

The exhibition is the fifth SALON on the occasion of our 10th gallery anniversary. We, the ten founding members of Galerie Ursula Walter, ride tandems and each have a guest in the saddle. In the themed salons and together with our guests, we show current works, artistic strategies and thematic focuses that have formed the basis of our joint discourse since the gallery was founded in 2013. Like a long table, we come together to look at the past and the future, discuss and share with our audience.

The exhibition series is funded by the state capital of Dresden, the Hermann Ilgen Foundation and the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony. The measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon state parliament.
