Paper, for centuries  the  information carrier of mankind, is the essential formal and creative matrix from which Patricia Westerholz develops her works, which are characterised by layers and graphic structures.
In her cut-outs and paper cuts, which are characterised by abstractly concrete pictorial compositions, she encodes and decodes historical and contemporary architectural forms and phenomena. The works represent a unique form of relief between two- and three-dimensionality, created by the stacks of paper that are cut into the depths of the planes. The shadows created in this way in the mostly monochrome paper tone determine the depth of the paper layers. The defining feature of the viewing experience is that these are constantly changing as the viewer moves along the work and can only be fully deciphered in this way. (S.A.)
