The Berlin painter Hagen Döring paints abstract, two-dimensional and linear. His presentation is fresh, succinct and metropolitan. Simple forms stand, lie or float in vibrant space. Simplicity contrasts with nuanced colouring and, despite having trained as a painter, adhesive tape is rarely used. He does not rely on cheap effects; the surface remains a surface without any spatialisation of perspective. Even when ornamental elements are present, there is never any decoration. Döring's titles are full of humour and irony. Everyday terms lay false trails or puzzle. Musical associations are allowed.
