The Holger John Gallery is showing recent pastel and charcoal drawings by the Dresden 
artist Silke Höppner. Characteristic of her chiaroscuro modelling is above all the

dissolution of the linear.

The motifs have nothing striking about them: simple meadows, rows of trees, deserted shore and 
harbour views, grazing horses, roofs and treetops - they have almost evaporated into abstract
structures. The suggestion of a tranquil, nocturnal landscape arises again and again.
Not tangible objects are depicted, but forms are shown as if they were in

dissolution or only just emerging.
