Cacti and dogs. The exhibition 민화 Minhwa International at the Hole of Fame presents two artistic positions that open up a dialogue between flora and fauna.

Minhwa 민화 is a term for Korean folk painting and an important source of inspiration for Soyoung Park's artistic work. Elements borrowed from this folk painting, such as animals and plants, represent far more than just aesthetic motifs. They tell of personal memories and dreams, of origins and longings - and possibly also awaken these in us. The series "Daydreaming about love" shown in the exhibition is about very personal (love) relationships and is based on a surreal dream of the artist.

This is juxtaposed with works from the newly created group of works "Parliament of Cacti" by Jan Kunze. Screen-printed, colour-varying collages in a pop aesthetic form a parliament of cacti. In his artistic works, which include painting, drawing and installations as well as prints, Jan Kunze usually works in socio-political contexts and negotiates historical and social processes.

Soyoung Park was born in Seoul in 1995 and studied Fine Arts at Ewha Womans University in Seoul and at the Dresden University of Fine Arts from 2013 to 2021. She has been a master student of Professor Barbara Ehnes in the area of stage and costume design at the Dresden University of Fine Arts since 2022.

Jan Kunze was born in Dippoldiswalde in 1986 and studied painting and graphics at the Dresden University of Fine Arts from 2010. He completed his masterclass with Prof. Christian Macketanz in 2022.

Both artists work in a studio community in Dresden.
