Mẹ – Mutter Vietnam
02.10.2025 — 29.12.2025

The exhibition with the subtitle "Four generations of artists between propaganda, avant-garde and autonomy" by the artist group Studio Nguyễn - Four Generations brings together works by Công Thành Lê for the first time in Dresden, Kim Thái Nguyễn, Xuân Lan Nguyễn and Thiên Trang Lê Thúy. The group of artists, connected by kinship and artistic traditions, opens up a dialogue about femininity, self-determination and artistic autonomy - between Vietnamese history and the German present.
"Mẹ - Mother Vietnam" not only shows the artistic positions of one family, but also four voices that connect war and socialism, migration and integration, memory and artistic freedom across generations. In this sense, the exhibition is a resonating space between past and present, Vietnam and Germany.
The background to the exhibition is the initiative of Xuân Lan Nguyễn, who has been collecting and presenting Vietnamese art in Dresden since the 1990s. She combines the work of her brother-in-law and sister with her own works and the paintings of her daughter-in-law, giving the Dresden public a rare insight into the history of Vietnamese women as bearers of family, society and cultural identity - and into the politically and artistically challenging lives of Vietnamese artists between Vietnam and the diaspora to this day.
