Inspired by the plate form of above-ground covers of historical, man-made watercourses that once utilised water power for mining, Jana Morgenstern abstracts the motif in her serial variations, which becomes visible as a trail of memory, a marker of time, but also as an autopoietic trace of the genesis of the work itself. In doing so, she exploits the potential of the monotype technique, which oscillates between drawing, painting and printing, with virtuosity.
