To mark the 130th birthday of the Leipzig painter Max Schwimmer (1895 Leipzig - 1960 Leipzig), a selection of previously unknown love letters to "Gerdine", his young lover Gerda Schimpf, written between 1936 and 1940, will be on display. In addition to 67 of these highly charming letters from the artist, a small selection of larger-format oil paintings and watercolours will also be on display.

In the cabinet, we will be showing small-format etchings with sophisticated motifs from the café house, studio and racecourse from the early work of Max Schwimmer's student and Dresden painter Herta Günther (1934 Dresden - 2018 Dresden).
