The drawings by Juliane Laitzsch are transformations and transcriptions of patterns, ornaments and cultural-scientific text excerpts from a wide variety of contexts, created in a process of handwritten appropriation that can sometimes be taken literally. The result is a playful series of drawings of Bauhaus carpets, antique textiles, floral patterns on historical ceramics, diamond necklaces and their photographic and other reproductions.

Away from the panel painting and central perspective, these often finely composed pattern formations, tamed in the rectangle of the paper format but retaining the urge to break down ornamental boundaries, can be presented side by side and on top of each other in a variety of ways.

The result is an ever-changing web of relations, whose order and claim to an interpretation corresponding to the objects ultimately produces a subjectively perceived truth rather than a universally valid one.
