DRESDNER SEZESSION 89 e.V. Abschlussveranstaltung - Abschied von der Galerie Drei
19.08.2026
The DRESDNER SEZESSION 89 e.V. As a key player and a recognised institution in Dresden’s art and culture scene, as well as beyond the region’s borders, the ‘galerie drei’ in Dresden’s Neustadt district – its third long-standing home and artistic base – must close its doors at the end of September 2026.
The complete withdrawal of institutional funding for our association as part of the City of Dresden’s austerity measures, as well as the increasing scarcity of other funding opportunities, have exacerbated the already precarious conditions, particularly for independent organisations and associations, and have ultimately forced us to take this difficult step.
DRESDNER SEZESSION 89 e.V. was registered during the period ofand renewal at the end of 1989 as one of the first officially founded and registered cultural associations in Dresden and has, ever since, shaped public discourse on social issues – particularly those relating to culture, women’s issues and artistic aesthetics – through a wide range of artistic projects and initiatives. In doing so, its members – comprising female artists and art historians – took a clear stand on women’s issues through their artistic programmes. The aim was to raise public awareness of the creative potential of artistically trained, professionally active women, their role and significance for culture and society, as well as their working and living conditions, and to bring about improvements.
36 years of uninterrupted presence have left their mark. These traces are visibly etched into a wide variety of public spaces across the city of Dresden.
Despite a journey that has not always been easy and has seen many twists and turns, the members of DRESDNER SEZESSION 89 e.V. point to a continuous history of development, featuring impressive, high-quality exhibitions, projects and events at their ‘galerie drei’ as well as at other venues, in the public spaces of the city of Dresden and beyond the state’s borders.
On Saturday, 19 September 2026, 6.00 pm _________________________________________________________________________________________
we shall bid farewell to this place, which is so important to us, with a closing event and the symbolic handover of our history – the ‘Chronology’ documentation – including various artistic estates, to the Dresden City Archives.
We would like to thank all our sponsors, in particular the Dresden Office for Culture and Monument Protection, for their decades of support and, with it, for the interest and trust they have shown in our work, as well as to the Art and Culture Foundation of the Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden and the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony for their support of our projects, and to numerous other institutions and sponsors.
Special thanks go to our supporting members and all the dedicated members of DRESDNER SEZESSION 89 e.V..
We would also like to thank the landlord of the gallery premises for his generous cooperation during the last few months whilst we have been completing the remaining work.
