Exhibition ,,REITER#STAND#BILD OR AN EQUESTRIAN STATUE"

08.04.2022 — 23.04.2022

Exhibition ,,REITER#STAND#BILD OR AN EQUESTRIAN STATUE
The theme of the exhibition is the equestrian statue. "The ruler on horseback" in its representation, in addition to the wide scope in the composition, offers many opportunities to incorporate effective details. Through the timing of the representation and the accompanying scenarios, it is possible to enter into a dialogue with history, and it becomes understandable why the works were commissioned in this form. In its current presence, the equestrian statue appears anachronistic; in contrast, the demonstration of military and political power is timeless. Such an individualized human demonstration of power seems like a contradiction to the nature of the horse as a flight and herd animal: neither as a steed of state nor for heroization was it born.

The ten artists will artistically process the "equestrian statue" with the help of various media. In the surface, in space, in language and as a performance; in wall painting, drawing, graphics, digital media and textile design; in the exhibition space and on site, the boundaries and their transgression between discipline and profession and other influences can be sought. Across the sciences, art history, history, political science, philosophy or biology can be considered. The exhibition focuses on the visual, historical, and philosophical dimensions of the equestrian statue, as well as its sociocultural and political background.
