Seljuk Rustum (India) & Hada Benedito (Spain/DE) live!

18.9.24, from 7pm, Full Moon Concert & World Premiere Composition for Underwater Acoustics Opus 1

Since the beginning of August, Seljuk Rustum and Hada Benedito have been guests in Bad Schandau in our artists' house of the Verein zur Förderung von Kunst und Kultur im ländlichen Raum Sachsen e.V. and have been working in our recording studio together with local soloists on the composition for the Liquid Sound underwater sound system. The special thing about this work is a special adaptation of the composition to the conditions of the underwater acoustics and the subsequent joint reception in the brine floating pool.

We would like to invite all interested parties to the presentation of the audio piece for the full moon night on 18 September from 7 pm in the Toskana Therme Bad Schandau. Admission to this special event is already included in the normal admission price to the thermal baths.

Seljuk Rustum is an artist based in Kochi, India, originally from Kannur, Kerala. He is a painter, musician, curator, producer, sound engineer and the founder and current creative director of the performance space Forplay Society. As a musician, he plays alto saxophone, guitar, percussion and synthesiser in several bands and a growing collective of like-minded artists. As a self-taught musician, his sound work is an extension of his visual work, and his music is a mixture of joyful noise and simple naive melodies. Seljuk also works as a sound designer for films and has done music and background scores for Malayalam films.

As a musician, he has collaborated with artists such as Otomo Yoshihide, Senyawa, Eiko Ishibashi, Hada Benedito Mateo, Mitsuaki Matsumoto, Yuen Chee Wai, Dharma, DJ Sniff, Toshio Kajiwara, Duncan Bruce, Hilary Jeffery, Hayden Chisholm, etc. Seljuk has also worked with many theatre makers and performance artists in India - making music for theatre and curating shows and workshops with actors and performers from all over India.

Hada Benedito, Valencia & Berlin - Pianist and composer - https://hadabenedito.net/

Trained pianist and director of the real-time composition ensemble BSO. Hada lives and works in Berlin and has been active in the field of improvised and contemporary music since 2009. She is part of the independent scene and regularly realises projects with artists in Europe and abroad.

Her work with children includes street art projects, organising multidisciplinary events and leading music groups.

In 2022, she received a grant from the Akademie der Künste, which enabled her to develop new concert formats of experimental music that actively involve children.

In 2023, the Musikfonds e.V. supported her work as a solo musician with a 6-month grant.
